Getting the image under 20KB

A 20KB limit leaves very little room for detail. The compressor first reduces quality, then carefully reduces dimensions only when needed. This usually preserves the subject better than applying a fixed quality setting.

How the 20KB compressor works

Pick a JPG, PNG, or WebP file and the browser decodes it locally. The tool tests multiple quality levels, keeps the highest one that stays under 20KB, and only reduces dimensions when the target cannot be met otherwise.

Will the compressor preserve transparency?

If the source image contains transparency, the output uses WebP so the transparent area stays transparent. Images without transparency use JPG, which is efficient for photographs and colorful previews.

What if 20KB is too small for the image?

The tool will reduce the dimensions to meet the file-size cap. This is normal for large photos and very small targets. The resulting dimensions are shown with the download so there are no surprises.

Frequently asked questions

Does a compressed image need to be exactly 20KB?

No. “Maximum 20KB” means the file must stay at or below that number. The compressor aims for the highest usable quality under the limit.

Can I use the result for an online application?

The output meets the file-size ceiling, but the receiving service may have additional requirements such as dimensions, file format, or background color. Check the full instructions before uploading.

Is the image sent to your server?

No. Image decoding, resizing, and compression happen in your browser. The site server does not receive the image content.
